Puppy Foundations

Starting on the Right Paw.

The first few months of your puppy's life lay the foundation for the dog they'll become. Puppy Foundations is about much more than teaching basic cues—it's about building confidence, fostering resilience, and helping your puppy develop the life skills they need to successfully navigate our human world.

Many puppies join their new families as early as eight weeks of age, just as they're beginning to learn important social skills from their mother and littermates. Through everyday interactions, puppies learn how to communicate, play appropriately, develop bite inhibition, recover from frustration, and navigate their social world. While we can't replace those early experiences, we can thoughtfully continue that learning through positive, age-appropriate training and enrichment.

Just as importantly, socialization isn't about exposing your puppy to as many people, dogs, and places as possible. It's about creating positive, confidence-building experiences that help your puppy learn the world is a safe and rewarding place to explore. Thoughtful socialization during this critical developmental period lays the groundwork for a confident, resilient adult dog.

Whether you're preparing to bring home your first puppy or already navigating those exciting first weeks together, Puppy Foundations provides the guidance, education, and support to help both you and your puppy succeed. Together, we'll create a shared language and build a relationship rooted in trust, understanding, and communication from the very beginning. Because the goal isn't simply to raise a well-behaved puppy—it's to raise a confident, resilient companion and build a relationship that will last a lifetime.

Puppy Primer I:
Building the Foundation

For Puppies 8–16 Weeks

The first few months of your puppy's life represent one of the most important periods of development. Between 8 and 16 weeks of age, puppies learn rapidly as they form lasting impressions about the people, animals, and environments around them. The experiences they have during this critical developmental window influence their confidence, resilience, communication skills, and ability to successfully navigate the world for years to come.

Rather than simply teaching cues, Puppy Primer I is designed to help you build the foundation for a confident, well-adjusted companion. Through personalized, one-on-one coaching, you'll learn how to communicate with your puppy, create positive learning experiences, and establish the life skills that prepare them for success both at home and in everyday life.

Throughout the program, we'll work on age-appropriate life skills such as attention, engagement, name recognition, recall, settling, loose-leash walking, and everyday manners while helping your puppy build confidence through thoughtful socialization and positive experiences. We'll also address common puppy behaviors—including nipping, chewing, potty training, crate training, and jumping—using positive reinforcement, management, and education while introducing cooperative care to help your puppy develop positive associations with handling, grooming, and veterinary visits.

Together, we'll build a shared language and a relationship rooted in trust, understanding, and communication—because the goal isn't simply to raise a well-behaved puppy, but a confident, resilient companion who is prepared for a lifetime of learning—and a relationship that will continue to grow long after puppyhood has passed.

Puppy Primer II:
From Foundations to the Real World

For Puppies 4–9 Months

Dog Receiving Affection

This Program Is Perfect for Families Who Want To:

  • Strengthen the foundation established during the early puppy months.

  • Help their puppy succeed around increasing distractions and real-world environments.

  • Improve focus, engagement, and reliability as their puppy matures.

  • Navigate common adolescent behaviors such as jumping, chewing, leash pulling, increased independence, and difficulty settling.

  • Build emotional resilience, confidence, and thoughtful decision-making through positive experiences.

  • Establish clear, positive boundaries while maintaining a relationship built on trust and understanding.

  • Recognize and proactively address emerging behavior challenges before they become long-term habits.

  • Continue raising a companion while strengthening the relationship they'll share for years to come.

As puppies enter adolescence, the world often becomes much more exciting—and much more distracting. Between 4 and 9 months of age, confidence grows, independence emerges, and puppies begin testing boundaries as they continue to mature emotionally and socially. It's completely normal for behaviors to change during this stage, and one of the most common things owners say is, "My puppy knew this before!" The good news? Adolescence doesn't erase your puppy's learning—it simply challenges it in new ways.

Puppy Primer II is designed to strengthen the foundation you've already built while helping your puppy apply those skills in increasingly complex, real-world situations. Through personalized, one-on-one coaching, we'll continue developing practical life skills, improve communication, and help your puppy make thoughtful choices—even when distractions, excitement, and everyday challenges compete for their attention.

Together, we'll build reliability through positive reinforcement while expanding your puppy's confidence, emotional resilience, and ability to navigate our human world successfully. We'll also address the common challenges that naturally arise during adolescence, helping you understand your puppy's changing developmental needs while continuing to strengthen the relationship you've built together. Because the goal isn't simply to have a puppy who follows cues—it's to raise a companion who can successfully navigate life alongside you.

Every experience teaches your puppy something. The question isn't whether they're learning—it's what they're learning.

Guided Learning is designed to help puppies develop positive associations with the people, places, sounds, surfaces, and everyday situations they'll encounter throughout life. Rather than simply exposing your puppy to new experiences, each session is thoughtfully planned to support healthy development, build resilience, and help your puppy learn that the world is a safe and rewarding place to explore.

Every puppy experiences the world differently. Guided Learning is about recognizing the individual puppy in front of us, meeting them where they are developmentally, and helping them build confidence one thoughtful experience at a time.

Whether we work together through hands-on Coaching or I guide your puppy through carefully planned Immersion sessions, every experience is intentionally designed to support your puppy's developmental needs while creating positive, lasting impressions. We'll move at your puppy's pace, celebrate curiosity, encourage thoughtful exploration, and build confidence through positive reinforcement and individualized guidance.

Because socialization isn't measured by how many experiences your puppy has—it's measured by the quality of those experiences and the confidence they build along the way.

Human And Dog Connection

Wondering if Puppy Foundations
Is Right for You?

1. When should I start training my puppy?

The best time to begin is before your puppy even comes home. Puppies begin learning from the moment they enter your home, whether we're intentionally teaching them or not. Starting early allows you to build confidence, establish healthy routines, and create positive learning experiences during one of the most important developmental periods of your puppy's life.

2. My puppy isn't fully vaccinated. Can we still begin training?

Absolutely. Training doesn't have to wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated. In fact, early learning is incredibly important. Together, we'll discuss safe, age-appropriate ways to build confidence, introduce new experiences, and support healthy development while considering your veterinarian's recommendations and your puppy's individual needs.

3. How do I know if I'm socializing my puppy the right way?

Socialization isn't about checking boxes or exposing your puppy to as many people, dogs, and places as possible. It's about helping your puppy develop positive associations with the world around them. Thoughtful, age-appropriate experiences that build confidence and encourage curiosity are far more valuable than overwhelming your puppy with too much, too soon. Every puppy is different, so we'll help you recognize your puppy's comfort level and create experiences that support healthy development.

4. What if I didn't start training at eight weeks? Is it too late?

Not at all. Every puppy develops at their own pace, and every family begins their journey from a different place. Whether your puppy is eight weeks or eight months old, we'll meet you where you are and develop a plan that supports your puppy's current stage of learning and development.

Every Great Journey
Starts with a Single Step.

Give your puppy the best possible start by building a relationship rooted in trust, understanding, and communication from day one.
